ATAC Re-Cap

April 2, 2014

It’s been a couple of weeks since my last post!  Sorry about that!  It’s been really busy around here.

Our ATs Against Cancer Social was a huge success!  We raised over $3000 for the American Cancer Society.  The highlight was definitely the raffle which included a ton of great prizes.  Our attendees seemed really impressed with set up, food and vast selection of beers at the Ale House!

During the event we had a lot of help from ATs, friends and my family.  My mother’s eye for “what makes a good party” was everywhere!  From organizing the raffle, to keeping an eye on the time, to making sure that the wait staff cleaned up dishes… I don’t know what I would have done without her.  My husband and brother in law helped load everything in and out and made a million trips to several different cars.  My Dad was the event photographer and you can see some of the great pics he took on our Facebook fan page.  He really captured the fun atmosphere of the room.  My sister helped sell raffle tickets and gave me a little break to go chat with our guests while she manned the front table.  Then at the end of the night while I was being pulled in a million directions and clearly showing signs of stress, she took initiative and made a call to a raffle winner to organize the prize pick up just so that there was one less thing for me to do while my mother “body guarded” to give me a minute to think and figure out the check.  I can’t describe how meaningful these little self-initiated gestures by my family were.  I come from a long line of “great party throwers” and I have to say, that this event was a family effort.  I couldn’t have done it without them and am really lucky to have such an amazing support system.

To anyone who ever would like to run a company or organize an event, my advice to you is this:  You can’t do everything on your own.  The more people who you can get involved, the better the final product.  When people offer to help, say YES.  And if people don’t offer and you need help, don’t be afraid to ask.  You’d be surprised how many people want to lend a hand.  Athletic Trainers Against Cancer was a great success and wonderful way to celebrate National AT Month.  Thank you, Everyone!
