With a focus on injury prevention and sport specific training, Mara Smith and the certified athletic trainers from Precision Athletic Training provide off ice fitness classes and injury care at

The Skating Club of Boston’s 1240 Soldiers Field Road location. 


Off-Ice Fitness Classes:





  • Contract & Courses: $18/class paid in advance

  • Walk-on: $21/class (Must be paid day of prior to class)

  • Private lessons or athletic training: $70/hour

  • Semi-private pricing is based upon the number​​​ of students/class

  • Spinner: $23/ 20 minutes + Cost of spinner fee paid to the Club

Unless otherwise noted: all lessons are 50-minutes long and contracted on a seasonal basis.

A minimum of 4 contracted participants are required for classes to be held. Unless otherwise noted, classes will be capped at 9 students.

Injury Care:

Precision Athletic Training is conveniently located in the fitness room at The Skating Club of Boston. The licensed and certified ATs are able to diagnose and treat sports injuries and make referrals as necessary.

List of athletic training services:

  • Injury Consultation

  • Emergency Care

  • Taping and Bracing including McConnell Taping and Kinesiology Taping

  • Wound care including blisters and skate bite

  • Moist Heat

  • TENS

  • Stretching

  • Manual Therapy

  • Rehabilitation


$70/ hour billed to nearest 15 minute increment. (All short treatments such as taping will be invoiced for a minimum of 15 minutes of service.) 

*Tape is included; however items such as that cost more than $5 may be purchased or special ordered.

Meet the Precision Athletic Trainers

A former competitive skater from Massachusetts, Mara Smith graduated with a bachelor’s degree in athletic training from University of Delaware. While there, she helped found UD’s collegiate figure skating team and during her senior year she joined UD’s synchronized skating team, The Precisionaires, and won her first national silver medal. After college, Mara returned north and accepted a job as the athletic trainer at Beaver Country Day School. She also joined the Esprit de Corps Adult Synchronized Skating Team and won 3 national gold medals between 2002 and 2011. In 2009, Mara received her masters degree in Sports Management from California University of Pennsylvania.In 2009, Mara created the athletic training per diem and consulting company, Precision Athletic Training LLC. This unique company provides quality and convenient sports health care to athletes. Precision AT has become the number-one source of athletic trainers for Massachusetts athletic directors. Precision AT is affiliated with the Sports Medicine Group at Boston Children’s Hospital. Mara loves working with all athletes and has a passion for helping skaters in all disciplines reach their full potential.

Mara Smith

Along with working at The Skating Club of Boston, her experience includes providing care and training for Hayden Synchronized Skating Teams. She also was on the medical team at the 2014 U.S. Figure Skating Championships, several national synchronized skating championships, ISU World Synchronized Skating Championships in 2013 and ISU World Figure Skating Championships in 2016. Mara loves providing both athletic training and group training classes to the skaters at the Club. She lives in Dunstable, Massachusetts with her husband, Kevin, their sons, Eli and Jamie.

Lauren MacGillivray

Lauren is a native of Southbridge, MA and has been working with

Precision Athletic Training since September of 2013. She has over a

decade of experience in athletic training as well as experience

coaching strength and conditioning at the collegiate level and

personal training for a variety of individuals ranging from young

athletes to military veterans.

She holds a Master of Science degree in Kinesiology with an

emphasis in sport and recreation leadership from James Madison

University and a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology with an

emphasis in athletic training from the University of New Hampshire.

She also holds a certification in athletic training through the

NATA-BOC and is licensed to practice in MA. In addition to her

certification in athletic training, she also holds several additional

certifications including National Strength and Conditioning Association

Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist and Certified Personal

Trainer credentials as well as a Precision Nutrition Level 1
Certificate in Exercise Nutrition. Lauren is a performance enhancement specialist for Team Excel and loves making positive impacts on the skaters and parents at The Skating Club of Boston.

Beckie Brannen

Beckie Brannen is a 2004 graduate of the University of New England

and holds a BS in Athletic Training.  She is a nationally certified

athletic trainer and strength and conditioning specialist. Beckie has worked with a variety of athletes of different sports levels and ages. Beginning at Central Maine Conditioning Clinic, she treated athletic injuries and helped many athletes with their physical fitness and well being. In 2010, she began working with Precision Athletic Training, working throughout New Hampshire and Massachusetts. Along

with working with The Skating Club of Boston, her experience

includes providing care and training for Hayden Synchronized

Skating Teams, Rivier University Women’s Soccer Team and many

other high schools and colleges. Beckie is very passionate and

loves to provide athletic training and group training classes to the skaters. She is currently living in southern New Hampshire with her husband and two children.
