Athletic Trainer for the Performing Arts


This course will provide valuable information to help certified athletic trainers be successful health care professionals in the performing arts setting. Similarities and differences will be discussed between typical athletic coverage and performing arts coverage. Topics will include settings, set-up, chain of command, potential injuries, taping and bracing. Personal experiences of the challenges and benefits faced as a touring certified athletic trainer will also be discussed.  


At the conclusion of the presentation, the participant will be able to:


  • Differentiate between traditional settings in athletic training and   performing arts settings.

  • Describe some of the differences in the set-up of a performing arts   athletic training program versus a traditional setting.

  • Name the key players in the performing arts setting.

  • Give examples of different scenarios in a performing arts settings where injury can occur versus traditional settings.

  • Identify some of the differences in the lifestyle of an athletic trainer touring with performing arts.
