Jill Descoteaux, PhD, ATC
Jill Descoteaux is a researcher-athletic trainer specializing in dance medicine and counseling theory and practice. She currently practices in Colorado with rugby and high-school athletes as she works collaboratively on several studies.
This presentation will introduce, and hopefully expand the practice of, non-dance specific athletic trainer's toolkit when working with a performing artist, specifically a dancer. A review of current literature and research trends will be discussed along with relevant terminology and the differences between the athlete and artist-athlete explained.
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
Associate dance-specific terminology with clinical observations with the dancer
Recall and assess common injuries in a dance population
Summarize several cultural aspects of performing arts and understand how those effect the patient-clinician relationship
Participants will not be eligible for a refund if they choose to cancel, but they will receive access to the home study lecture upon request when available.
