and Musculoskeletal Health

11am EDT LIVE Webinar

2 EBP CEUs    $50

This webinar will consist of two lectures about concussions and how they relate to other parts of healthcare. Dr. Buckley and Dr. Howell will help us understand the latest research on concussion, and how concussions can affect neurological and musculoskeletal health. This webinar has been approved by the BOC (AP#8644) for 2 EBP CEUs.

The short and long term risk of contact and collision sports participation, and their associated repetitive head impacts, has gathered considerable scientific and media coverage, of varying accuracy, in recent years leading to extension public discussion on the safety of contact and collision sports. As front line health care providers, athletic trainers are undoubtedly fielding questions from concerned patients and family members regarding the safety of contact and collision sports participation.

Upon completion of this lecture, participants will:

  • Know the short and long term outcomes associated with age of first exposure to collision sports

  • Differentiate the issue of age of first exposure and career duration/exposure on neurological outcomes.

  • Appraise the evidence related to age of first exposure on public health and societal decisions.

Epidemiological evidence suggests a 2-3x greater risk of sustaining a musculoskeletal injury following a concussion for athletes, relative to those who did not experience a concussion. Through this presentation, audience members will have a better understanding of ways to screen for future injury risk upon concussion return-to-play clearance. Dual-task gait approaches may be clinically feasible and offer useful insights. Furthermore, the incorporation of neuromuscular training after return-to-play should be considered.

Upon completion of this lecture, participants will:

  • Describe existing literature and theory surrounding increased injury risk after concussion.

  • Summarize potential factors that contribute to the increased injury risk after concussion.

  • Explore ways to detect & intervene risk of injury after concussion.

Cancellation Policy:

Precision Athletic Training will not offer refunds on this lecture. If participants cannot attend the lecture, their credit will transfer to the home study version of the course once available.
